Rainfall Event Summary

Sum interval rain totals, expose observation gaps and find the peak interval-average rate.

Preparing interactive controls…

Paste CSV or open a local file. Nothing is uploaded or stored. Limit: 1 MB and 1,000 data rows. Changes recalculate the report; keep a copy of your original data.

Use interval totals, not cumulative gauge readings. Ordered non-overlapping intervals only; missing gaps are reported, not assumed dry. Peak means the highest interval-average rate.

Introduction & principle

Total=Σdepth; each interval rate=depth/duration. Covered duration sums observation intervals; event span includes gaps. Ordered non-overlapping intervals are required. This is not instantaneous intensity or a flood-risk model.

Worked example

2 mm in 1 hour followed by 3 mm in 0.5 hour totals 5 mm across 1.5 covered hours. The peak interval average is 6 mm/hour.

Detailed usage guide
  1. 1Use start_utc,end_utc,depth_mm CSV with totals for individual intervals.
  2. 2Enter explicit UTC start/end times in increasing, non-overlapping order.
  3. 3Read total, covered time, gap time and peak interval. Gaps remain unknown rather than being treated as zero rain.
Common problems & FAQ

Are cumulative gauge totals accepted?

No. Convert cumulative readings to interval differences first, accounting for resets and missing observations. Do not mix cumulative and interval values in this table.
